It's That Time of Year

I walked in the house after picking raspberries, and this is what greeted me from our kitchen table:

You can guess what I did all afternoon and into the evening!  There are lots more to do tomorrow as well.  I am very thankful for all of these green beans, since we have almost depleted our supply from previous years.

I'll let you know how many quarts came out of this pile of beans.  Any guesses?

Twenty Five? I only had 8 or 9 pints from my smallish pile of green beans.(from my small garden) Karen in Missouri

Now that's a lot of green beans! Glad to see you are having a bountiful harvest!
Hmm, I will guess 42 quarts… Probably nowhere near right, but at least a guess! :-)

Hi Karen, It's great you were able to can some beans. We love them! I think your guess is a bit on the low side.

Hi Andrew,
Sorry, but by the time I go to bed tonight I'll have canned 42 quarts. We have lots more to go tomorrow! We ended up throwing the yet to be done ones in a cooler, and I'll get busy as early as I can tomorrow.

Believe it or not my Mom had a kitchen table years ago almost as full! I would pick the ends off,and off, and off!

Such a busy time of year!

Sleep well at night!

I'm guessing at least 60 quarts. Do you get help with the snapping and canning?

WOW! That is a lot of green beans, I guess I should have at least doubled my guess to fifty and sounds like that is low. Maybe 100? That would be two quarts a week for your family. Now that sounds about right? Karen

Wouldn't it be fabulous to have beans that have tender, edible stems?! Oy, what snapping you had to do! But how much satisfaction you get when you have those wonderful canned goods in the winter, right? Carry on, I'm sure there will be another crop of beans coming along quickly behind these! You'll probably be snapping beans in your sleep!
