Oh No, Not Again!

After a very cool spring, our family has attempted to get all of our vegetable plants in the ground. Then we receive another forecast like this:

Tonight
Mostly cloudy with slight chance of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms in the evening...then partly cloudy after midnight. Patchy frost late in the night. Lows in the upper 30s. North winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.

Tuesday
Mostly sunny. Patchy frost in the morning. Highs in the lower 60s. North winds 5 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night
Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 30s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph shifting to the southwest after midnight.

This forecast is for our nearest town; we live 15 miles away in a higher elevation, so who knows what we will receive as far as freezing temperatures. Our family was up at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday to get ready to leave for the Appleseed Project, and there was frost on the chicken barn roof.

Guess this is our year for keeping a sharp eye on the weather.

Hello Mrs. Bartlett!
We too have been having a challenging year with the weather down here. I do believe that we are now past the freezing point finally though, and we transplanted our plants into the garden yesterday. I hope you will soon be able to do the same. :)

We planted our stuff over the week end so will have to cover things tonight. The weather is one of the most challenging parts of gardening. Hope you can get things planted soon.

Is this typical weather for ND
this time of year?
I live in AK and our weather is
very unpredictable. Last summer
was all rain. This year so far
is great.

Thanks for all your comments. Guess a lot of us are in the same boat!

And no, this isn't normal weather -- not even for northern North Dakota. I talked to someone that has lived here all of her life, and she said there has been frost but not a chance of snow this late in the year.

We moved here the end of August 2004, and were told that year there was frost in June and August as well. No one had successful gardens that year.
