PS

Our newest goat kid died about midnight last night. We tried feeding her colostrum with an eyedropper and she was swallowing it, but I think there must have been something wrong with her at birth. She was much smaller than the other kid. Now we have to figure out what to do with our newest kids, since 2 of the 3 born to 2 does were bucks.

Hi Lynn! Welcome back home from your trip. I've just been catching up with your posts. So sorry to hear about the kid dying, poor thing. I get a little choked up about the baby animals. I remember losing a baby guinea last year and getting pretty upset. Well, as for having a couple of bucks, maybe you can sell them? Raise them for meat? Put them to work and train them to pull a cart?

Emily has some good ideas for those little boy kids. I am surprised she did not offer you any of her favorite fowl!!

Emily,
Hi Emily,
It was hard for me to lose the little kid, and I'm not sure death is something I'll get totally used to. As for the bucks -- my hesitation is that if we keep them for meat we need to castrate them (I'm not going to do that, someone else will have to do it!), and if we don't and keep them, we'll have 3 very stinky bucks roaming our farmstead! One was bad enough!

Marci,
We don't need any guineas, our turkeys are pains enough around here!

Hey, Marci, I wouldn't try to palm my lunatic terrorists off on anyone! :) We are looking forward to the next butchering day. They sure make good eating but I don't think I'll be raising a crop of guineas again for meat birds. Not worth the headache!
